In The Cultural Politics of Emotion, Sara Ahmed writes:
“A companion text is not one that tells you what to think, but one that offers a handle, an inclination, a leaning toward a question that already lives in your body.”
Humsafar means companion. This project emerges from my own memory, but it would be impossible without the company I kept along the way. The books listed below are my co-thinkers—texts that shaped not only what I came to know, but how I came to feel, to listen, to narrate. I share them here to give light to that intellectual and emotional companionship, both conscious and unconscious, that moves beneath every gesture in this work. These are not footnotes. They are part of the breath of this project. Just as Humsafar holds stories of collective care, fractured longing, and queer orientations toward the past, so too does this list carry with it the fragments of thought and feeling that have walked beside me. This is a reading trail, but also a love letter to the thinkers who helped me feel my way forward.
